Crescent Medical Center was founded in 1993 by a group of motivated people in and around Alathur with the aim of improving general backwardness in health care sector of this area and promoting excellence in health care, health awareness and health education.

The promoters are a group of people who are natives of this area and the people living here are their relatives or friends. Alleviating the sufferings of the people was deemed as their God ordained duty towards the community. Rather than monetary benefits, the prime motive behind this humane effort is to lend a helping hand to the needy and suffering inhabitants of this locality.


Even though Alathur is one of the highly populated thaluk of Palakkad district, it is also the most backward thaluk in social, economical and educational aspects. The population chiefly constitutes the middle and lower group in the income strata, who has limitations in affording modern medical care and treatment.

The area lacks modern medical facilities very much. To get secondary and tertiary care for major diseases, emergencies and accidents, people have to travel about 40-70 KM. This results in loss of precious human life in emergencies especially road traffic accident victims, for whom immediate effective and expert medical attention and care is a must, to reduce morbidity and mortality.

It was under these dismal circumstances that Crescent Medical Center came forward to set up a modern specialty health care center namely Crescent Hospital, capable of providing affordable expert modern medical care and treatment, for the benefit of the people of this locality.
